Roads
West Tamar Council is responsible for the maintenance, repair, reconstruction and rehabilitation of local roads.
The Department of State Growth is responsible for State highways and declared main roads. In the West Tamar municipality these are the West Tamar Highway, Frankford Road and the Batman Highway. Any concerns relating to these state managed roads should be directed to the Department of State Growth (Transport) on 1300 139 933.
For issues regarding Council maintained roads, please contact Council on 6323 9300.
Load-Limited Roads
Load-limited roads require a permit from the Transport Commissioner for transporting heavy loads.
The following roads have a 15-tonne load limit: Rosevears Drive, Gravelly Beach Road and Deviot Road. A permit is required for vehicles heavier than 15 tonnes to travel on load-limited road.
These permits are a two-step process:
- Contact Council with vehicle and trip details. Council will write a Letter of Support that says West Tamar Council supports the vehicle travelling on the load-limited road for a period of time, subject to conditions such as vehicle speed and direction of travel;
- Complete an Application for a Permit to Bypass a Prescribed Load Limit Road Sign and submit to State Growth with the Letter of Support from Council.
For further information or to apply for a permit, please contact Council on (03) 6323 9300, or email wtc@wtc.tas.gov.au
