West Tamar Growth Strategy
West Tamar Council is currently embarking on the first Growth Strategy for the region and we need your input!
The purpose of the Strategy is to enable sustainable growth over the next 30 years and beyond. The Strategy will develop a ‘roadmap’ for managing growth while balancing the protection of natural spaces and the places that make West Tamar an amazing place to live, work and invest.
SGS Economics and Planning have been engaged by Council to assist with developing the strategy.
The Strategy will consider where and how the municipality should accommodate growth and the infrastructure and community services needed to support this growth. Several growth scenarios will be investigated and consulted with the community. Community and stakeholder feedback and technical analysis of each growth scenario is key in determining a preferred growth scenario for the West Tamar municipality.
The Strategy will give Council a clear strategic direction on future growth, and will also assist developers, landowners, planning consultants and Council in preparing and assessing Scheme Amendment proposals for the rezoning of land.
Community consultation in the form of workshops, a survey and general request for feedback is coming soon. Look out for further communications about this project on this webpage, via social media, the Beacon and various other media outlets.
Get involved and have your say!
The first phase of consultation starts in November 2024.
Background information is available to inform our conversations with you:
· Snapshot of West Tamar – provides high level information about the project, key statistics and poses questions that the growth strategy aims to answer. This will help get you thinking about growth, what you value about West Tamar and how we respond to change and challenges in planning for growth in the future.
· Technical Appendix to the Snapshot of West Tamar – if you are after a deeper dive into the statistics and technical input into the Growth Strategy the Technical Appendix is the document for you! It is a really interesting read about where West Tamar is now and the opportunities and challenges in planning for growth.
· Growth Scenarios – to stimulate the conversation about growth and understand what is important to you, three growth scenarios have been developed to show some different approaches to planning for growth. What do you like? What don’t you like? What do you, your children or your parents need for the future?
